While most of AdSense publishers choose to display text ads inside content hence the ads will blend well with contents. I try to display an image ads stands out outside content.

Text ads inside content I presume will drive higher Click Thru Rate than image ads that stands out of the content. But, don’t forget that some of the image ads do not display Ads by Google per default. I think this kind of image ads will compete with a common text ads in click thru rate.

If you’re familiar with AdSense you’ll know that you can have 3 ad units and 1 link unit per page. Many webmasters make the mistake of using the full allocation thinking the more ads there are the more likely a visitor is going to click them and therefore the more money they will make.

This doesn’t work in my experience (and the experience of other webmasters I have spoken too) and here is the reason why.

What ever your web page subject is about there will be AdSense ads of varying value. Google will always display the most valuable ads because they want like you to make the most money. Now if you have all three ad units in play on the page not only will you have the most valuable ads but also you will have the ads from companies who paid considerably less. Obviously if people click on one of these lesser paying ads you may only be getting only a few cents.

Therefore my advice to you is to have a maximum of one ad unit and one link unit per page. That way when you get clicks from your visitors they are more likely to be of a higher value.

Having fewer ads on your pages also has the benefit of making your page look more professional. There’s nothing worse than coming to a page which is swamped with AdSense ads. It’ll have the majority of your visitors hitting the back button long before they read the ads let alone click on them.

If you don’t believe me choose a page with reasonable traffic and test it for a couple of weeks. If you’re not earning as much as before you can always change it back. Traffic, Adsense, Money - The Three Card Trick of Internet Marketing

There are not many things in the Internet Marketing world that you can wholly rely on. Following the advice of the 'experts' does not always yield success. In my experience though, there is one area of Internet business that can pretty reliably deliver results. And that is 'Traffic, Adsense, Money'. In other words, if you send traffic to a site with AdSense on it, you will get paid! The good bit is that you will get paid by Google, which means that the income source is reliable. There is no waiting for payments, and no panicking if the provider will go bust before they send you your money.

So everything is rosy ..... or is it?

Can it really be as simple as that?

Well, in essence, it is that simple. Google have some simple rules which you must follow, but otherwise, you can pretty much count on receiving regular payments from Google if you adhere to the three card trick. Sending traffic to a site is not always straight forward, but there are many ways in which this can be achieved, although this is something outside the scope of this article.

What we want to discuss here, assumes that some traffic is coming to your site, and you have AdSense already established. We want to look at the 'money' element of the equation.

Whilst getting traffic to your site is a major part of the Internet Marketing exercise, it is not enough by itself. Undoubtedly, when you receive traffic to a web site with AdSense on it, you will get some people clicking on Ads, and you will receive some income. However, for every dollar you make on each web site, you could be losing another four or five. Let's read that again,

Ouch! But it's true. I know because I have proved it.

When I started creating web sites a few years ago, I discovered AdSense, created an account, threw some code onto my sites and left it. Not surprisingly, nothing happened, and I forgot about it, and went onto other things (sound familiar so far?).

Imagine my surprise when about two years later, I received a cheque from Google for just over $100. I couldn't believe it. So, the first thing I did was to look at my AdSense account and see why they paid me. I also checked my web logs and lo noticed that traffic has appeared over a period of time, and yes, people had clicked on my AdSense ads. However, I was hungry for more information. After all, if I could do this without paying attention, imagine what would happen if I tried to replicate it. I started doing the math, and multiplying my results by the number of web sites I was going to put up. I could see dollar signs in front of my eyes, and was on my way to the travel agent, when it hit me.

I didn't know HOW to replicate this success. I didn't have enough information.

One thing was for sure. Web sites take time to attract traffic as a rule, and by doing nothing to promote my sites, I got some results, but it took a couple of years. So, we come to a rule

* There may be ways to speed things up, but you have to be patient.

And while we are at it, we can create another rule

* Track your results

Now, Google does offer some tools to track your web sites, but to my mind they are limited and cumbersome . They certainly didn't give me many clues as to how and why I received my cheque from Google I wasn't able to tell anything other than which sites has produced the income. Nice to know, but not enough to enable me to replicate my success. So, I had to find another way to track AdSense results. I eventually tracked down an awesome script that did everything bar get up and make a cup of coffee.

This script has everything that you need to monitor your AdSense campaigns. It not only tells you which sites are generating income, but it also tells you which pages on the sites, which Ads on the sites, which colors of which ads on the sites, which keywords were used to find you, which site referred your customer to you .... need I go on? It is a magnificent tool, and one which is indispensable if you want to succeed with AdSense

I just wish I had it four years ago .......

Anyway, back to the story ......

Once I installed the script, I started to see trends in my web sites, and as I built more sites, my AdSense income grew, and I now get regular payments from Google Please note that I am NOT one of those who makes tens of thousands a month with AdSense (I wish), and I still haven't discovered the secret to that level of success. I do, however, continue to monitor my results and to read any information that I can relating to AdSense

First off, I should point out that the tool is excellent for the beginner, because it takes you through every aspect of setting up an AdSense web site. No stone is left unturned.

And I am testimony to the fact that it goes beyond beginners as well.

I have implemented some of the strategies outlined on some of my sites, and I have seen improvements in all of them. I would say that my clicks have doubled with the same amount of traffic. What is the great secret to huge earnings with Adsense? The truth is, there is no great secret.

Let us look at adsense from the top.

Adsense pays you a percentage of money for each click that you generate on your website. Which brings us to two very important facts that few seem to realize when building their adsense websites.

* You need traffic to click on your adsense ads.

* Your ads must be relevant to the search of the visitor.

Lets dissect them one at a time.

Traffic.

You can create adsense sites with software, buy pre-built sites, use PLR and so on. This is a nice quick fix to solve your problem of generating adsense income, or so many seem to think.

Most of the time you will have wasted your time and money. It would have been much better spent taking the dog for a walk or doing the dishes.

For an adsense site to be successful it needs visitors, many visitors. If you have just put up a new site it will mean you have not been indexed neither do you have any page ranking. Your 2000 page pre-built website at this moment in time means nothing. Don't forget that a thousand or so others have followed the same route as you, some before and some after, quite a bit of duplicate content don't you think?

Lets move on.

The search engines have come by and your pages are now indexed after two or three months.

Suddenly to your great surprise for the next month you have a total of two clicks, or worse none whatsoever. Four months down the line becomes six and still the results remain the same.

Fortunately you do not need to feel alone, there are many who have done exactly the same thing with the same results. But from your perspective the internet sucks and there are only a few who will make money and the multitudes of others will buy their products.

Sorry to tell you the truth, you are wrong. If you went about building your adsense empire with a plan, and not a quick fix, things would be quite different. But we all still love quick fixes and buy them, so there is no need to feel bad.

Building your adsense site takes careful planning.

You can do it as a new site, subdirectory or implement it on your current site.

The very first thing that you must do, and I cannot stress this enough, is keyword research.

It is a long and arduous task and does take a lot of time and thinking to get to the right keywords. It is the life or death of your site. You can have the best optimized pages around, but if you chose the wrong keywords you will never be seen.

The wrong choices would be keywords that are never searched for or the competition is so high that you will be competing against many high ranking websites, and your pages will just get lost in the maze.

Only when you have your keywords in place is it time to develop your content. You should try to create as many of these pages yourself.
Now you are not able to write one thousand pages all by yourself but if you write one page a week, by the end of the year you will have 52 unique pages, that is what the search engines are looking for. Your pages need not be long 400 to 600 words are fine as long as the content is relevant, but we will get to that now.

If you are just starting your site you can mix up your pages with articles, PLR content and your own, but do create your own unique content as often as you can.

Now lets look at relevance.

If a visitor lands on your page from a search engine result he must find your content relevant to his search, otherwise he will leave as quickly as he came. He will not be clicking one of your adsense ads either to his next destination.

Why not?

Your adsense ads on your page will be reflective of your content, not his search, which means they will have no meaning to him whatsoever. That is why it is so important to have relevant content to your keywords, that is what brings the visitor, keeps him on the site and gets him to click an adsense ad when he leaves.

Placement of ads and the way they appear have been proven to increase or decrease CTR. Unfortunately this information is only obtainable through research over a period of time. You have to use different formats and placements on different pages and track each ad separately to establish which work best.

But the internet is constantly changing, and what is working now will not necessarily be working in six months to a year, so unless you have been doing the research yourself over a period of time and finding the right information at the right time, you will have to pay to get your adsense working effectively and profitably.

This is the great secret to successful adsense pages, it is nothing more than research information as to what is working best at this time. The information is gathered through persistent testing, tracking, more testing and tracking until the right combinations are found and then doing it all over again. Less AdSense ads = More Money!

If you’re familiar with AdSense you’ll know that you can have 3 ad units and 1 link unit per page. Many webmasters make the mistake of using the full allocation thinking the more ads there are the more likely a visitor is going to click them and therefore the more money they will make.

This doesn’t work in my experience (and the experience of other webmasters I have spoken too) and here is the reason why.

What ever your web page subject is about there will be AdSense ads of varying value. Google will always display the most valuable ads because they want like you to make the most money. Now if you have all three ad units in play on the page not only will you have the most valuable ads but also you will have the ads from companies who paid considerably less. Obviously if people click on one of these lesser paying ads you may only be getting only a few cents.

Therefore my advice to you is to have a maximum of one ad unit and one link unit per page. That way when you get clicks from your visitors they are more likely to be of a higher value.

Having fewer ads on your pages also has the benefit of making your page look more professional. There’s nothing worse than coming to a page which is swamped with AdSense ads. It’ll have the majority of your visitors hitting the back button long before they read the ads let alone click on them.

If you don’t believe me choose a page with reasonable traffic and test it for a couple of weeks. If you’re not earning as much as before you can always change it back. I’m willing to bet though after you see the improved 'Click Through Rate' (CTR), page 'Effective CPM' (eCPM), and ultimately earnings for the page you’ll be changing the rest of your site to the same format.

Why are my AdSense ads not related to my topic?

This is a common question for people who are using Google AdSense, and there are a variety of reasons why you might find that it's not targeting good ads on your site. Let's talk about the major causes and I'll explain how to remedy each of them.

The most common cause is that your keyword density is too low. You might not have heard of this SEO jargon, but the logic is straightforward: if you have a blog about knife self-defense, for example, you need to actually have the phrase knife self-defense on your site at least once every 2-3 paragraphs.

All too commonly, writers find that they refer to "it" or, in your case, "self defense" or "protection" or other synonyms. A synonym is a good tool for writing, but it can be counterproductive for having search engines or ad engines accurately identify the primary topic of your article.

Another facet of this is if you have lots and lots of non-article material on your pages (promotional text, ad copy, link lists) you can confuse the ad engine about just what actually is the point of the page. This can best be addressed by adding AdSense section targeting, as explained here: AdSense Section Targeting.

A second problem you might be encountering is that there are simply too few bids on your exact keywords in the AdSense system (technically, AdWords, as that's the "advertiser" side of the AdSense coin). You can ascertain this by opening up an AdWords account and bidding on a few of the most important keywords in your space. Does a bid of $0.05 give you top placement? That means that there aren't any other advertisers!

Another way to test is to use a tool like Nichebot. When I go there and search for "knife self-defense" shows that it was only searched for 15 times in the last 12 months (in their database, at least). That's incredibly rare, and strongly suggests that you need to come up with either a broader focus for your blog (by comparison, "self defense" was sought 782,000 times) or come up with a different description of your content to be more findable.

Finally, if you do these and use these techniques and still find that your ads aren't a good match, you might email Google's AdSense support team and ask them for some suggestions. I've found them friendly, helpful and reasonably responsive, and it is in their best interest to be matching your content as closely as possible.

If you familiar with Adsense, you must know about Alternate Ads. Alternate ads allow you to utilize your ad space in the event that Google is unable to serve targeted ads to your page. By default, Google shows public service ads (PSAs) if no targeted ads are available.

Google Adsense has been the major earning source for many webmasters but one thing Google has always been criticised is that it does not allow the webmasters to know what ads are being displayed on their forum. Once you have decided to take your marketing campaign to Google's AdSense pay per click program, you agree to a number of rules including:

- No hidden pages. You must have a clear hierarchy and each page needs at least one link to get there.
- No broken links. If you link outside of your site, make sure you check your links often. No more than 100 links per page.
- When designing your site, create one that is helpful to a user; don't design a page for search engines. Make sure you clearly define what your site is about.
- Your TITLE and ALT tags should be precise and descriptive.
- You need a site map to help users find what they are looking for if your menu doesn't.
- No hidden text.
- No redirection of your site

Even if you follow all these design rules, you may still be at risk of losing your AdSense advertiser account or have temporarily been fined a penalty in the form of your ads being removed from rotation on other sites. The penalty may go away with time, but it's best to double and triple check your site then file a re-inclusion request (instructions below.) Include in your request which changes you've made and that it won't happen again.

Your competitors might have a plan that could get you banned. It's called "click bombing" and it's against Google's policy.

Click bombing happens when someone, be it a competitor or not, repeatedly clicks the pay per click ad for a business in order to raise flags with Google. Google rates their ads based on relevance, so the more an ad is clicked, the more relevant it becomes, and the higher up the list it moves. This has made it very easy for business owners to move themselves up the relevance list, so Google countered this practice by red flagging any business that has a significant spike in AdSense hits. If the hits all trace back to the same IP address or addresses, the advertiser is removed for "invalid clicks".

Finding out about this strength in Google's search engine, sneaky competitors have started to exploit it by purposely clicking the competitions ad again and again, in order to ban the ad.

If this has happened to you, or if you've been banned for violation of any of the design or technological terms of your contract, you can sometimes have it overturned by contacting customer support. You can contact Google support by visiting http://www.google.com/support/bin/request.py. Make sure you type "Re-inclusion Request" in the subject of the email. Keep your request simple, short and to the point. No need to threaten Google that you'll stop advertising with them or list how long you've been a customer.

It is imperative, though, that you run reports frequently and store the data outside of your Google account. This will help prove to Google that a click bombing happened should you be removed. 1. Format is important for multiple ad units
Placing a skyscraper above the fold on the left side of your forum seems to produce slightly better performance than other positioning. However, when using multiple ad units throughout the page our horizontal bias still favors the leaderboard. See the Forum Heat Map below for more details.

2. Display your ad units where repeat users will notice them
A leaderboard at the very top fits nicely next to the logo, but forum regulars tend to skip the header and go straight to the meat of the thread. Placing your ad unit above or below the first post can be more effective.

3. Place a leaderboard immediately after the last post
This provides users who make it to the end of a thread with a ‘next step’ when the content ends. If you place it after the footer, though, folks will move to the next thread before they even see the ad!

4. Use horizontal link units
Link units offer a wider range of relevant topics for users to browse. A horizontal unit can be placed near the top of your forum just below the header.

5. Opt-in to image ads
Supporting image ads increases the pool of ads –particularly cost-per-thousand-impression (CPM) ads – bidding to display on your site. Since forums tend to have lower click-through rates (CTRs) than other types of sites, CPM ads can improve revenue without the need for clicks. Please remember, however, that CPM ads come in both text and image formats.

6. Be sensitive to your forum community
Forums are highly interactive, so be sensitive to your users when implementing your AdSense ads. And if that number doesn’t wake you up and have you sitting on the edge of your seat, consider for a moment that he reached this level in less than a year. His company only started using AdSense in September 2004.

Calacanis runs Weblogs Inc., a network dedicated to creating trade weblogs across niche industries. And he’s quickly proven that AdSense is a credible advertising partner.

I attributed this spike to a great traffic enhancing service I joined recently. I registered at EntreCard last December 7, and based on the result, I have no regrets. They have a totally innovative concept of increasing site traffic. As a registered user, you have a chance of advertising your site through a 125x125 ad, which they call "Entrecard" on any member's site. Your "Entrecard" can be text or your own uploaded image. You can advertise by paying through your "credits". You earn credits by clicking on other site's "Drop yours" link at the bottom of the widget or accepting request for advertising. If you accepted a site, their "Entrecard" will appear in your widget for a certain period. This system guarantees that each member will be visiting other member's site, thereby increasing traffic for all.

For now, I just keep dropping and accepting ad request, until I gain enough credits to advertise on the "big names". This is a really great idea.

AdSense Change Rules

The AdSense blog has just announced changes to the AdSense referral program which I’m pretty disappointed in. In fact they anger me and leave me disillusioned with AdSense.

There are two changes:

1. Changes to Payment System

The ‘experimental’ payment system for publishers promoting AdSense is being changed back to the way it was before it was changed a year ago.

The current pay system (that is about to change) works like this:

If you refer someone to AdSense who makes $5 within 180 days you get a payment of $5.
If you refer someone to AdSense who makes $100 within 180 days you get $250
If you refer 25 people who make $100 within a 180 day period you get a bonus payment of $2000

The previous payment system (which is what things are being changed back to) is this:

If you refer someone to AdSense who makes $100 within a 180 day period you get $100.

This removes the incentive to refer anyone who is a small publisher and it removes the incentive to work hard at referring multiple publishers. In fact it removes quite a bit of incentive to use the program at all.

As someone who had always just fallen short of the $2000 bonus I can tell you that for me it always acted as a huge incentive to promote AdSense. When AdSense added the $5 and $2k bonus I thought it was genius - while the numbers may not have been right - I’m surprised that AdSense have removed incentive for publishers to refer them in this way.

But if that’s not enough - get this second change:

2. AdSense Referrals Retired for Publishers outside of North America, Latin America and Japan.

If YOU as a publisher are outside of North America, Latin America, and Japan - you’ll no longer be able to participate in the referral program.

Yes you hear me right, its about the location of you as a publisher that excludes you from participating in the AdSense referral system. It’s got nothing to do with your audience’s location, the topic you write about, the quality of your blog or any other factor - it’s about where you blog from.

I’m not privy to the reasoning for this - they simply say ‘We’ve found that this referral product has not performed as well as we had hoped in these regions’ - but in my mind this is stupidity to the ultimate degree.

As a publisher who blogs from Australia but who has a blog on a niche topic that relates perfectly to AdSense and which has the vast majority of it’s traffic from the USA (and which has consistently referred publishers to AdSense that have converted at the $100 in 180 range) I cannot understand the reasoning for this change.

I’m just one example (I’m the example I know best) and a quick look at my stats shows me that I’ve displayed AdSense referral ads close to 20 million times. I’ve sent them tens of thousands of visitors and have been responsible for thousands of sign ups. I cannot even begin to imaging how much money those signups have made AdSense - yet today they’re telling me that they don’t feel that that kind of evangelism for them is worthwhile paying for?

I can understand the reasoning for changing payment levels if they are not converting well for AdSense, but to exclude publishers from promoting them based upon the location of the publisher is simply dumb.

AdSense Launch Ad Review Center - Review Ads Targeted at Your Blog

Adsense has just announced a fairly significant new feature that will help publishers to monitor what ads are being targeted on their blogs to see if they are relevant and appropriate for that site.

I complained in a number of recent posts that I didn’t really have any idea what ads were appearing on my blogs in other parts of the world - so you can imagine that I’m pretty happy with this development.

It’s called the Ad Review Center and AdSense say that it will roll out to publishers ‘over the next few months’ (they are rolling it out with publishers slowly over time). It will be something that you need to check regularly as you will have 24 hours to review ads before they are automatically allowed to run on the site.

There are two options with reviewing ads - ‘auto allow’ which lets all ads run as soon as they are set up by an advertiser and ‘manual review’ which means ads don’t appear on your site until either you approve them or until the 24 hour waiting period is over.

It only allows you to see what ads are being specifically targeted to your blog (ie not normal contextual ads) but this is important as advertisers are increasingly using the targeting feature and at times what they’ve done with the ads have been inappropriate to the sites that they’re advertising on.

The new feature allows you to view the ads and block those that are inappropriate. You’re asked to share a reason why you’ve blocked it (this is shared with advertisers).

Inappropriate ads might include:

competitors ads
ads from companies that you don’t want to be associated with
ads that are visually inappropriate
ads that attack you as a publisher in some way (I’ve seen more and more of these lately)

I’m not yet activated for this new feature - but from what it sounds like - it’s a good move from AdSense.

Banned From Adsense? It's Your Own Darn Fault

Here are five reasons why you've probably been banned from using Adsense, if you don't already know:

1) You are clicking on the ads. If you are clicking on your own ads, you should have rotten tomatoes thrown at you. Look, if Google has a technology that can pick up ambient noise, they sure as sugar can tell that there are multiple clicks from the same IP address. They don't have enormous data centers to impress their stockholders. They have enormous data centers to collect loads of granular data about everything related to the click - who, when, where and probably more.

2) You are asking someone else to click on the ads. I'm sure you're very popular, but so is Google. If you're silly enough to ask random people to click on the ads, you will be found out. I mean, I wouldn't report you but I know people who would. And they make loads of money and don't want you mucking it up just to earn a few dollars a day.

3) You are in a network whose sole purpose is to click on ads. Yes, newbie advertiser, there are networks of scammer/spammers that work together to click on each other's ads at the thousands of domains under their control. But fear not, this publisher activity does not go unnoticed. It's true that it takes a little longer for Google and other networks to piece together the puzzle, but if advertisers voice their complaints about a specific source of traffic in a timely manner, action will be swift and fierce across the board.

4) You are using an automated click fraud software. This goes back to traffic quality. You may very well have a very savvy media bot that can mask all sorts of things and rack up the clicks. If you do, send me an email - kidding. Google, I'm totally kidding. The thing about click fraud software (just like click fraud networks) is that it's simply a matter of time before they get caught. Sure, advertisers are going to pay more for clicks on average, but it's no different than the amount you pay as a result of shoplifting at a retail store. The cost is built in. Plus, if you don't like the traffic you are receiving, leave or lower your bids.

5) You are presenting the ads in a way that misleads users. Some usability maven at some point in the last 18 months suggested that publishers should place images around the Adsense that is displayed on a site. The result is that it generates a higher click-through as you're calling more attention to it. Some take this to an extreme, the result of which misleads users into clicking on an ad that they really think is part of the content of a website. Google doesn't really care for this - it's against their terms and conditions if you read closely - and it can get you banned if you take it to the extreme. It's true, complaints usually fall on deaf ears once you've been broken up with. But it's probably because you think you're smarter than the thousands of brilliant, wealthy programmers and can circumvent their hyper-advanced click fraud technology with a click-bot you purchased from some third-world programmer. Of course, none of the advertiser complaints about the poor-quality traffic your network delivers had anything to do with you being banned, dumped and kicked to the curb. The reason that Adsense is one of the most successful revenue generating programs on the Web is because it works - and not just for other big media properties and networks. It works for anyone that wants to monetize on user clicks at their own Web properties - as long as you follow the rules. If you don't, count on being banned.

Plentyoffish: 1-Man Company May Be Worth $1Billion

PlentyOfFish, a leading online dating site that is run by a single person and is raking in money. Markus Frind is the singular force behind PlentyOfFish. At the time of our last review, June 2006, PlentyOfFish was earning $10,000 per day from Google Adsense (around $3.5 M per annum).

I caught up with Markus today via email and asked how the business is doing now. He didn't want to get specific about earnings, but he said that POF will earn $10 Million + next year (which puts it at around $30k per day). So just in earnings, POF has grown rapidly over the past year or so. As well as Adsense, income now comes from banner ads and affiliate marketing. A May Wall St Journal article has a good general profile of Markus and his company.

There is one former fact about PlentyOfFish that has just become a myth - Markus hired his first employee a few weeks ago! This person is doing customer service, a task previously done by Markus and his girlfriend. So technically POF is a two-person company now, but that doesn't make quite as good a headline ;-)

In terms of traffic, currently POF gets 1.2 billion page views/month, and 500,000 average unique logins per day. The peak season is January, when it will grow 30% according to Markus. I asked what is the total number of users that POF has currently, but Markus replied that total users means nothing in the dating industry. He said that True.com and others claim 20 million users, yet fewer than 100,000 people a day actually login and use those services. According to Hitwise stats, POF is second in the US online dating market and 1st in Canada and UK.

Comparison with Facebook

What really pricked up my ears was when Markus started to talk about click-through rates and how that compared POF with Facebook. As you'll recall, Facebook supposedly has a valuation of $15 Billion currently, thanks to Microsoft's $240 investment last week. Many people are skeptical of the Facebook valuation though, because Facebook and social networks are known to be poor at generating money from ads.

Markus told me that per page view, Plentyoffish has 5-10 times the click through rate of Facebook. So by his calculations, POF's 1.2 Billion page views per month is the same as 5-10 Billion Facebook page views per month. Facebook "only" generates 40 billion page views a month and yet it has a $15 Billion valuation. But the crux of Markus' argument is that despite having about 33 times the monthly traffic of POF, Facebook's poor click-through ads should bring the valuation models closer. Markus said that "over 40% of Facebook's pageviews are image related, ads in bad positions and users just generally looking to waste time." He said that "there are only a handful of sections on the site [Facebook] that will generate good click thru rates for advertisers."

So getting down to nitty gritty metrics, Markus concluded that "Facebook is only able to generate 10 to 15 times as many clicks on ads as my site and it's valued at 15 billion. Needless to say I'm watching ad supported business model valuations very closely." What's more, some of his direct competitors - e.g. Eharmony and match.com - are apparently valued in the billions.

While Markus didn't put a figure on what PlentyOfFish is probably worth, it's clear he is thinking in Billions and not Millions. It's very hard to quantify this, but at the very least POF would be worth in the 9 figures due to its annual revenues of $10M. Not bad for a one-man company (plus a new Customer Service Rep!).

Precautions before testing Google AdSense on your website

If you are testing your new website layout, you might be reloading your website pages again-n-again. And if these pages contain Google Ads, each time your reload your page, you make a request to Google Ads Server for a new set of ads.

Certainly Google is unaware that you are testing your website and it might even penalize your account for "click-fraud" since the IP requesting ads remains same. And if in the worst-case scenario, you might accidently click on your own ads. And these extra "ad impressions" will also chance your CTR data.

One simple way to avoid this serious problem is to remove the Adsense code altogether from your page before testing. But this may not be the best solution as your Google Ads are an important part of your layout. So here are a few simple but effective workarounds:

1. Instead of using Adsense code, add a static graphic (jpg image) with the same dimesions as your adsense code. (Google itself provides static images of various ad formats.)

2. Modify the value of google_ad_client to something like "pub-googleIamTesting"

3. Add another line to Google Adsense code google_adtest = "on"; Don't forget the semicolon.

4. Though there is no official comment, it is safer to remove the google_ad_channel variable.

Adsense CPM is it important

New Adsense users seem to get very worried about the eCPM figure varying for their sites or blogs. Usually all this worry about effective Cost per Thousand page impressions ( which is what eCPM is) is completely unnecessary and pointless - in particular when you are just starting out with your blog or website with Adsense on it.

Let see what eCPM actually is. eCPM is basically just a statistical tool that shows you what your effective earnings are per 1000 impressions. It does this based on your current rate of earning and assumes that this is typical. The result of this is that eCPM can vary quite a lot over time.

Also when the numbers of page impressions and the numbers of clicks and amount of earnings are relatively small these fluctuations tend to be wilder - this is just a consequence of the way this statistic works and is not something you should waste time worrying about.

Lets imagine that you have achieved 100 page impressions. You have earned 10 cents for these 100 impressions. This gives earnings per 1000 impressions (eCPM) of $1. eCPM =(earnings *100)/1000 (If you had 200 page impressions with 10c earnings then eCPM would be 50c.)

Note: That equation works if you are quoting earnings in cents ie 10c etc. If you are using earnings in dollars then its simply earnings/1000.

So each page impression that shows up new in your AdSense report is going to change your eCPM figure - the figure will fluctuate as page impressions and clicks come in at a varying rate over time. So short term variation to eCPM is not something to go grey haired about.

Over longer periods of time it can be worth thinking about the eCPM figure because it is more stable and reliable and is then telling you something about the effective earning capacity of those pages in relation to the amount of traffic that they get.

The easiest method an account can be banned is by a Webmaster clicking on the site's own ads.

Natural, organic and standard are interchangeable terms describing a search engine that bases its search rankings on a ranking algorithm. The algorithms involve a number of criteria and parameters, all relating to the content of the website, the website's size, the number of incoming links to the website, and the content's relevancy. You will hear terms such as keyword relevancy and keyword density to describe various components of the algorithms.

For the standard search engines, you, your webmaster or hired search engine optimization specialist could spend considerable time optimizing your website to achieve top rankings. We still must consider derivatives of the keyword or keyword phrase. So, was being #1 worthwhile? That depends on your website's cost per visitor, conversion rate and profit margin of your product or service.

From what we've covered so far, you should realize you can achieve a top or high ranking through the pay-per-click search engine. But, a high ranking will cost money and these costs can be volatile. Meanwhile, the standard search engine remains free.

However, pay-per-click offers one significant advantage. It enables you to achieve website visibility with a high ranking instantaneously or overnight. If you want to draw traffic to your website fast for any reason, pay-per-click can make that happen. Remember, maximizing the standard search engine process takes time!

The best adsense template format will be very simple. It will include a minimum of navigation, so the visitor is mostly directed to the Adsense ads blocks.

The template format will also be built with a maximum of three different colours, so the eyes are not too distracted from the content. Try to use minimal graphics, they are not necessary.

Once you know you are going to put adsense on your website you’re going to have to consider where to put it. If this is new site it’s easier, if it’s an existing site it’s more difficult. While there are some people who will be able to do it, in most cases I’d say if you just slap the adsense code in, you’ll end up with a frankensite monster (props to Tedster of WMW for the buzzword). While every website is different, Google has published some heat maps showing the optimal locations. No surprise that the best spots are middle of the page and left hand side. Now I’ve done really well by placing it on the right, but you should know why you’re doing it that way before hand, and be prepared to change it if it doesn’t work out.

Google has also has published a list of the highest performing ad sizes:

336×280 large rectangle

300×250 inline rectangle

160×600 wide skyscraper

From the sites that I run, I do really well with the 336 rectangle and 160 skyscraper. My next best performing ad size is the 728 leaderboard, I don’t really use the 300 inline rectangle too often. So really it depends on how well you integrate these into your site. Placement can have a dramatic effect on performance. TIP: When working on a new site or new layout you may want to give each location it’s own channel for a little while until you understand the users behavior.

Another ‘trick’ that can increase your CTR is by blending your adsense into your body copy. For example if your body copy is black, remove the adsense border and make the title, text, and URL black.TIP: Try changing all of your page hyperlinks to a high contrast color (like dark red or a bold blue) then change the adsense title to the same color.

The one area where I’ve found blended ads don’t perform as well is forums, especially ones with a high volume of repeat members. Regular visitors develop banner blindness pretty quickly. One ‘trick’ to keep the ads from being ignored is to randomize the color and even the placement. As with any of the decisions about location, placement and color it’s a trade off. How much do you emphasize the ads without annoying your visitors. Remember it’s better to have a 1% CTR with 500 regular visitors as opposed to a 5% CTR with 50 visitors. TIP: For forums try placing the adsense ads directly above or below the the first forum thread.

Using Images

One of the latest ’secrets’ to make the rounds is using images placed directly above or below an adsense leaderboard. This has been used for a while but came out in a digital point forum thread where a member talked about quadrupling their CTR. Basically you set up the adsense code in a table with four images that line up directly with the ads. Whether or not this is deceptive is fuzzy and very subjective. Obviously four blinking arrows would be ‘enticing people to click’ and be against the adsense TOS. However placing pictures of 4 laptops over laptops ads isn’t, so use your best judgment here and look at it from the advertiser or Google’s perspective. If you have a question as to your implementation being ‘over the line’ write to adsense and ask them to take a look.

As far as using the images, I’ve done it and can tell you it definitely works. You get the best results when the images ‘complete the story the ads are telling’. For example if you have ads about apple pies, use pictures of freshly baked
apple pies, instead of granny smith, Macintosh, pink lady, and braeburn apples. TIP: Don’t limit yourself to using images only on that size ad unit, it works just as well with the other sizes, like the 336 rectangle.

Added:
I got a little criticizm for this and rightly so, as I wasn’t specific as I could have been. Do not use very identifiable brand name or products for your images. Use generic non-specific stock images whenever possible and appropriate.

Multiple Ad Units

Another way to increase ad revenue is to use multiple ad units. According to Google’s TOS you are allowed to post up to three ad units per page. Similar to standard search results the highest paying ad units will be served first and the lowest being served last. If there is enough of an ad inventory, place all three ad units. However you should pay attention to the payouts. Current assumption is you get 60% of the revenue (on a $0.05 click you get $0.03). So if a click from the third ad unit is only paying between 3 to 5 cents you may want to omit it from your page. This is one are where giving your ad units channels does have value. If one ad unit is getting a higher percentage of click throughs you’ll want to make sure the highest paying ads are being served there. TIP:Use CSS positioning to get your highest paying ads serving in the location with the highest CTR.

Adsense in RSS

With the growth of blogs and RSS feeds you’re starting to see adsense included in the feeds now. IMHO this doesn’t work, and here’s why:

You only get to place one ad unit.

You have no control over finding the ’sweet spot’ for the ad unit.

The ads are usually poorly targeted (this is getting better).

People develop ‘banner blindness’.

I know people like being able to read full postings in their feed reader, and there are at least a dozen other reasons for full posts from pleasing your users to mobile offline computing, all of which are completely valid. However if your website depends on generating adsense revenue to survive, then bring them to the site and show them the ads there.

Affiliate Sites

Placing Adsense on affiliate sites is tricky. Are you giving up a $10, $20, or $30 sale for a $1 click? This is something you have to test on your own to figure out. If you aren’t converting now it’s definitely worth a try. I like to use adsense on my article pages. For example let’s say you had an affiliate website where you sold shoes. You’re going to need some related articles to ‘flesh out’ the site. Things like ‘getting a shoe shine’ or ‘finding a shoe repair shop’ these are excellent spots for adsense. While you won’t get rich, they will usually provide a small steady income and cover things like hosting costs.TIP: If you find you have pages getting more than 50 clicks per month add more pages about this topic, and link the pages together. Mine you logs for the search terms used.

PPC Arbitrage

This is a dicey subject so I’m going to steer clear of precise examples. Basically you bid on low volume uber niche terms at a very low cost. You set up landing page that contains high payout ads for the related general topic. You are looking for terms with a large gap between the price you are bidding on adwords and the price you are getting on Adsense. If you pay $0.10 a click and get $1.00 a click you make $0.90 each click. To get your adsense ad approved you will need to ‘add some value’ along the way. You can make a killing or get taken to the cleaners with this one, so make sure you know what you are doing before you try it.

In this post, I will discuss more tips about Search Engines Optimization.

Getting to the top of the search engines results list is a very useful way to get traffic but before you get to the top, you need several Search Engines Optimization techniques to help your site get to the top.

Let's make it simple for you, I make a simple list with 10 ways of optimization you can do to your site for Search Engines Optimization.

1. Title of Your Site:
Naming your site is very simple. You can simply use a word or short sentence to name your site. Most of us never really realize that the "Name" of the site is important to help your site get listed at the top of the list of Search Engines Results. The thing you need to do is to create a good name for your site to get to the top of the list.

How Good is Good? What Name is Good?
The answer is simple. Use words that describe your site best.

Example:
If your site is about "Blogging" then you can try words like "Blogopedia". Search for the word "Blogopedia" using Google Search. If the results appear to be millions then find for other words. ***Try to search for the word "Blogopedia" using Google now. Check the results
I search for it and the result is "178,000" sites have such word.

So, if you create a site using this word "Blogopedia", then your site maybe listed in the middle of the search result. If you optimized your site with contents and frequently update it, then you can climb very fast to the top.

***Important: Do not use words that are too general like words that already existed in our dictionary. Create your own words.

Why do you need to create new words?
Remember the words like "Yahoo", "Google" and "MSN"? What is their meaning? The meaning is very hard to define and before their existence, they are not in the dictionary. During those days, when you search for these words in search engines, they are not there.

Now, try to search for them in search engines, they are everywhere and they are at the top of the result list.

In short, new words can help you to get to the top of search engines very fast.

2. URL of your site:
The URL of your site is also very important. Use new words that you create. Repeat steps in step 1 above. This is a good way to help your site to get to the top.

Words like Gizmodo and Engadget are also new words but they show clear meaning and clear idea about their sites. Think a good name for your site fr higher ranking in search engines.

3. Using Tags:
Make use of HTML tags in your site. You can use bold, italic, emphasis and underline in your contents. This will further optimized your site.

Remember: Use those tags for certain important keywords in your site.

For example, if your site is about "Cars". Then, you can make brand of cars bold and so on. This enable better indexing of the search engines bot and can help to get better ranking too.

Like many important people before you - perhaps you've underestimated the power of blogging. Blogs can be used, not only as the single easiest way to get a listing in the search engine for your desired keywords, but also serve the fantastic purpose if building a relationship with your quickly growing list of readers, listeners and viewers.

After a light lunch today, I was left in the greatest mood. So I figured I would sit down and share with you 10 ways you can share my success and popularity using blogs.

1. Use a keyword specific blog title and description. When creating your blog, I just used the free service www.blogger.com you're asked to title or name your blog and give a short description. Take this chance to think a little.

Ask yourself:

a) Who do you want to read your blog?
b) What is your interest or topic - what will you enjoy writing about?

Tons of people peek at your profile, and Blogger.com keeps track of all your views, so open up and share a little. Everything on your profile page is taken as a searchable keyword. 5. RSS is your friend! Create an RSS feed, by hand or using Feedburner. This gives your readers the option to subscribe to your blog with just a click. Maybe you’ve had your own “Aha” moment with Google Adsense.

I had mine earlier this year when I realized I could make more than just pocket change by featuring those now familiar ad blocks on my websites. I had worked hard building my content oriented niche sites and had expected to make decent affiliate income—which never materialized.

You see, most people online (including you and me), are looking for information. I call them “lookey-loos.” They want to gather information before making a purchasing decision. This is normal behavior. However, if you are looking to earn or make online money via a web site affiliate program, you’ll quickly realize that it takes a lot more than slapping banner ads and links on your site.

Although, I’ve made a modest amount of affiliate income, it didn’t seem enough to make it worth my while, in spite of what the affiliate marketing ebook gurus said. That’s the point where I decided to put Adsense on my sites. Got nothing to lose, right?

At first I was like “Cool. A few pennies a day in the piggy bank.” I didn’t have to do anything extra for it, so it was kind of an easy way to make some “spare change.” I didn’t care how much I made each day. Anything was better than looking at a big fat zero.

Then something changed. The money accumulating in my Adsense account began to grow. Hmmm. Maybe there’s something more to this Google Adsense thing than I realized. Adsense seemed like a pretty decent opportunity to make money online.

This is when I got serious about the potential to make money with Google Adsense. I know I’m just one of thousands of website publishers that has recently discovered that this is one of several ways to make extra money.

So here many of us sit, anxiously checking our stats to see how much money we’ve made today. What is our CTR (click through rate)? How much are we getting paid per click? And so forth.

While we all hear the tales about those making thousands per day or month with Adsense, most of us web publishers, here in the trenches, are not blessed with having a gazillion visitors that produce big fat checks. We are trying to steadily grow our modest Adsense income fairly and honestly.

But what is the secret to doing that?

Yet, online advertising is still a relatively small percentage of total (U.S.) advertising dollars spent. However, things are rapidly changing. Online advertising will see steady growth for many years to come.

The potential windfall for online web publishers is enormous. A web publisher making $30 a month today, could be making $300-$500 per day in a few short years. Those who go for the quick, unethical profits now, but lose their Adsense accounts because of it, may be kicking themselves in the future. To me, it’s just not worth it.

Anyway, for those of you who think that you’ll never make it to that coveted $100 per month mark so that you can join the Google monthly check club, take heart. There’s still plenty of time for you to get there. However, you must get serious. You won’t make the big money if you’re treating your websites like a hobby.

Ok. So, here’s some quick tips on what you can do to grow your Adsense profits (I’m currently making over $300 per month with Adsense by following this very strategy):

***BUILD QUALITY CONTENT SITES***

Content is King.

You will not see good CTR without quality content. Put yourself in the visitor’s shoes. What’s the first thing you’ll want to do when you visit a crap website? Yeah, that’s right. Leave. Some web publishers believe that quality content doesn’t matter. That people will be less likely to click if they get good information at a site. This is not my experience. Some also believe that a crappy content site will cause visitors to click on Adsense ads to “escape” a bad site. I think this is B.S. When’s the last time you clicked on an ad to escape someone’s site? It’s too easy to hit the “back” button or close the browser.

Your job as an online web publisher is to give people quality information. The ads are an added benefit to your visitors. If they want more information on a product or service related to your subject matter, then they are more likely to click on an ad. They will trust your site more. And, yes, my sites consistently have really good CTR. That means “high interest.”

***BUILD MORE THAN ONE WEBSITE***

While a few lucky web publishers have hit the golden jackpot ($10,000 a month and up) with only one site, most of them had built up a very popular site over several years and already had tons of steady traffic (in the thousands). When they put Adsense on their sites, they saw instant big money, and they continue to reap the rewards.

You and I, down here in the trenches with fairly new sites, cannot realistically expect to achieve these lofty heights overnight. It’s gonna take a lot of work to get where they are, if we ever do. Even if we don’t, we can still make a nice enough income to achieve our desired financial goals. So quit obsessing over what so and so is making and focus on your own web publishing business.

Now the truth is, the more quality websites you build, the more money you’ll make with Adsense. This goes for blogs too. If one site drops in clicks, then another site often picks up the slack. This is my experience. And these sites don’t have to be big money makers on their own, or get lots of traffic. It’s a numbers game. The more sites you build, the more opportunities you’ll have to reap Adsense profits. How many sites you build is up to you, but it’s not uncommon for successful web publishers to have between two and 10 sites, some have many more!

Yes, this takes a lot of work. You have to research a niche topic, keywords, popularity potential, design a decent looking site, write or hire someone to write quality content, get your site listed in the search engines, keep monitoring your site, etc. So, you’ll be working some long hours in front of your computer. But think of it as building your online empire—one site at a time.

***USE HIGHEST PERFORMING AD BLOCK***

While you can test various Adsense ad block sizes and colors on your website, others have already done the research as to the top performing ad block. It’s the 300x250 rectangle. This block should be blended into your web page so that it doesn’t look so conspicuously like an ad. People hate ads. They don’t like to be sold to. However, if your ad blocks don’t scream “advertisement” to them, they’re more likely to click. This has been proven.

The best positioning for ad blocks is at the top of the page (center position seems to get more clicks). Also, blue link color gets more clicks than any other link colors. But of course, you’re free to experiment with ad blocks on your own site.

***TWEAK AND UPDATE YOUR WEBSITES***

No website is perfect. You can always make improvements. Change or add new (relevant) information. If your website is ranking low, try adding new information. Search engines love websites that have fresh information. You don’t have to add something new every week, but you can tweak and update your sites periodically. I’ve had sites move into excellent search engine positions just by doing a little tweaking.

BEWARE of auto-generated feeds and content. Google is cracking down on sites that have too much automation. The search engines seem to love organic content that looks and reads like the web publisher put some personal effort into it.

***WORK ON GETTING MORE TRAFFIC***

I know. This is the 100-pound gorilla for all of us. By now you know it’s not easy getting web site traffic. Whole ebook empires have been built around this very subject. All I can tell you is that there are some proven techniques, but they take work and time. One of the best ways, and the method I use consistently to get great results is writing articles like this one, and submitting them to article directories and lists. It’s also a nice way to get new sites indexed relatively quickly.

You MUST keep working on getting more traffic to your websites. Traffic=Clicks=$$$

I know it can be frustrating when your site traffic is in the single digit per day category. Look at it this way, there’s nowhere else to go but UP.

They don’t care about how much money their SPAM pages cost advertisers when they send unqualified, or barely interested visitors, clicking onto the advertiser’s site. Blogs have many advantages over normal WebPages when it comes to internet marketing. Blogs are indexed much faster, blogs can “ping” hundreds of blog and news directories, and blogs can be listed in places normal websites are not. Here are some Power Tips to get your blog rolling!

1.) If your blog is new, create at least three to five posts per day. People who visit will want something to read. Also, focus on keywords in your niche topic for “natural” search engine optimization.

2.) Add your blog to your My Yahoo! page. If you haven’t setup a My Yahoo yet, just go to yahoo.com and click on the My Yahoo! icon near the top right. After your setup, go to your My Yahoo page and click on the “add content” button found near the upper right. You will be presented with a form to enter your RSS link. You will enter something like this http://yourdomain.com/blog/?feed=rss2. When you submit your own RSS to My Yahoo it is indexed by Yahoo.

3.) Add your blog to your Google’s Reader. When you submit your own blog RSS to Google’s Reader the Google Blog Search will index your site. To do this, goto google.com, click on the “personalize home” or “my account” button in the upper left. After you account is setup, sign in and click on the “add content” button in the upper left of your page.

4.) Add a link directory to your blog and trade links with sites that share a similar niche. At this point, you want to trade links mainly to get direct traffic. In the long term, this will help with your rankings in the search engines as well. Do a search like “add ur”" or “add link” in your favorit search engine to find potential link partners.

5.) Use ping sites like http://pingomatic.com Ping your site every time you add a new post. Check to see if your blog software is already doing this. Wordpress and B2Evolution do this automatically and is a real time saver.

6.) Submit your blog to traditional search engines such as Google, AltaVista, and MSN.

7.) Submit your blog to traditional directories such as DMOZ.com Directories (particularly DMOZ) increase relevance with Google. DMOZ is very picky and can sometimes take months to get listed.

8.) Submit to as many RSS Directories as possible. There are over 150 listed at http://www.masternewmedia.org/rss/top55/. This is a simple but repetitive process that can be done automatically with RSS submission software.

9.) Comment on other blogs and forums. Do not just leave short, lazy comments like “I agree.” Try to really answer questions or give opinions on subjects you know. How long your post will be depends on you. Generally, five to ten sentences is enough to explain yourself on someone else’s blog or forum. Most forums require you to register, so include a link to your blog in your profile and/or in your signature file. But be tactful about it; some forums get annoyed with those who selfishly drop a few links to their own site and leave. Find a relevant group on Google groups, Yahoo groups, MSN groups or any of the thousands of other FREE group services and find like minded people and talk with them. Make sure your use your blog URL like it is your name.

10.) Use track backs. If there is a blog that you refer to or quote and it is highly relevant to your subject, leave a track back. A TrackBack is a mechanism used in a blog to show, around an entry, a list of other blogs that refer to it.

Remove borders on your AdSense ads. Web visitors eyes wander around the screen; borders stop them from wandering.

Removing borders from your AdSense ads can lead to a significant boost in CTR.

Use Matching Fonts

Match the font of your site content to the fonts of your AdSense ads.

Use Matching Colors

Match the colors of your AdSense ads to the colors of your site content. Make the ads look like content and more visitors will look at them.

One exception to the color matching rule is sites that are designed to appeal to scammers and spammers. Those sites sometimes perform better with highly contrasting colors.

Use Blue Links

One of the best tricks to improve your CTR (click threw rate), is to constantly make changes to your ads.

I don't know how many of you even know about the option you have in your Adsense account, to select multiple color palettes, for 1 Adsense ad.

What does this option do, how does it work, and why should I use it?

It's very simple. Instead of you manually changing the way your ad looks every now and then, you can set it to be automatic, so it changes constantly with out you needing to do a thing.

You'll have to ask Google exactly how it works.. But what I know is that it simply modifies the code which is generated, to have the option of changing the color palette.

Pst! Wanna know some Adsense secrets? The only secret is that there are no secrets per se!

Do a search for Adsense secrets and you will be bombarded by a myriad of ads by trying to sell you the answers to making lots of money with Adsense.

Before you buy anything, my advise to you would be to do some research on a search engine and a bit of common sense. There are literally hundreds of forums where you can pick up valuable information, as well as hundreds of articles that have been written on the subject of Adsense.

Most of the answers are out there for you to find it you will put in a little bit of work. If you buy any of the ebooks available out there, you might find one little nugget of information that you may not have seen anywhere else, but I promise you: most of the time everything is out here on the Internet - all you have to do is search for it. Here are some of the search terms that I personally have used with great results:

What I can tell you from my own experience is this:

1. Ads at the top of the page and on the left of the page perfom better than any other ads. (Take a look at the “heatmap” from the Google link below)

2. Ads without background colour and borders perfom better than ads within borders with background colour.

3. Ads within content pages perform better than any other ads.

4. A search box on every page gives you another chance for earning Adsense income.

5. A blue link at the top of the ad, the ad in black, and the url also in black so that it blends in with the ad copy - also tends to perform well. A black url makes the link stand out and gives you a better chance of someone clicking on it.

Experiment with your settings and see which brings you the best results. Google’s reporting has become a lot better in the last month or so, so you should instantly be able to see which ads result in better CTR.

To increase your site traffic, which obviously will increase your Adsense income, the best way to get traffic is to have fresh content at your site. Write your own articles and submit it to article directories like Go Articles etc. To find more article directories, just do a search for “free article directory submissions” on a search engine like Google.

Another way would be to publish articles by other authors that are relevant to your site content. You can find free articles all over the web by once again doing a search for e.g. “free site content”.

Do this on a regular basis and watch your traffic (and your income) increase.

BLOCK THE BAD ADS. Monitor your site regularly and take note when irrelevant ads appear. Then, take the time to add them to your blacklist for the site. Google does give you the ability to block individual ads via the Competitive Ad Filter. If you block out commonly served irrelevant ads, you may improve your chances of featuring more ads upon which your visitors will actually click.

The more contextually relevant the ads appearing on your site are, the more clicks you can expect to see. As such, it is important to make an effort to use a combination of proven SEO methods that also work well with Adsense and some program-specific maneuvers to secure the best possible ads on your site.

When Do I Get Paid Using Google Adsense?
